Event Details

What is the role of the designer in a theatrical production? How do they work with the director to realize their vision? This course will provide insight into the steps involved in designing a show from A-Z, from the perspective of each of the disciplines above. We will also discuss best practices for the interface between designers, director, stage manager and crew.

We'll explore the work of noted designers and directors such as Julie Taymor (The Lion King), Boris Aronson, Patricia Zipprodt and Harold Prince (Fiddler on the Roof), Trevor Nunn and John Napier (Cats, Nicholas Nickleby), David Korins, Paul Tazewell and Thomas Kail (Hamilton), among others.

If you love a good backstage story, and you've ever wondered how all these components work together, this is the course for you! Some prior theatre experience, in any capacity, helpful but not necessary.

Class will meet twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays

Starts April 13, ends April 22
