Climb Katahdin*, the tallest peak in Maine, on this 4-day/3-night guided trip in Baxter State Park. Although this hike is strenuous, you’ll be rewarded by exciting trails, spectacular views and the comfort of a bunkhouse at night.
*This is a difficult hike. Participants should be in good physical condition.
Meet at Maine Sport Outfitters in Rockport. We’ll drop our cars and take a van to Millinocket. Tonight we’ll eat and stay at the Big Moose Inn.
We’ll have breakfast and grab our bag lunches before driving approximately an hour to Baxter State Park. We’ll start at the Roaring Brook trailhead and hike about 3 miles to Chimney Pond Campground with our gear for the next 2 days and 2 nights.
We’ll load up our day packs and head out to summit Katahdin mountain (5,267 feet) via the Cathedral trail and Saddle trail. Then conquer Pamola Peak (4,902 feet) via the Knife Edge trail. We’ll hike a total of 6 miles today. We’ll sleep well in our bunks at Chimney Pond Campground tonight.
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack up and hike the 3 miles back to the parking lot. Then we’ll head back to Rockport where we’ll say our goodbyes.
*Itinerary subject to change. Weather permitting.
