Wine lists are a window into the history and culture of wine consumption. Join us as we trek through nearly two hundred years of printed and handwritten wine lists, from restaurants simple to haut, from hand-scrawled tent cards to finely designed and printed wine books.
Led by rare and culinary book expert, Don Lindgren of Rabelais, this talk and wine tasting will consider what historical wine lists tell us about how wine marketing and wine drinking has changed over the decades. The talk will be illustrated with rare examples of wine lists from the Rabelais Books collection. Peter Hale, co-owner of Drifter's Wife and the adjoining natural wine shop, Maine & Loire, will compare and contrast today's natural wines with those from history. Includes a tasting of three unique wines. Presented in partnership with Rabelais Books, Drifter's Wife and Portland Food Map.
